Just finished this great book, Cultural Intelligence: Improving Your CQ to Engage Our Multicultural World written by my friend Dave Livermore. I would put this on the required reading list for anyone who leads mission trips, or mobilizes cross cultural mission experiences for people. I would also recommend it to anyone who wants to be challenged in how they view the world. This book will help you guide you through many significant questions that need to be asked when engaging other cultures, for example this is an excerpt from page 222:
"How might generosity turn into something that's not very generous and pretty self-serving? How do good intentions end up objectifiying people as a way to make the "servants" feel good at the expense of those being served?"
There is also a great assessment tool at the back of the book to measure your level of cultural intelligence.
Another great resource worth checking out from this same author is: Serving with Eyes Wide Open: Doing Short-Term Missions with Cultural Intelligence
I'm looking forward to Dave's next book in this series which is Leading With Cultural Intelligence.
